With Zhang Yimou as the general director and Sha Xiaolan as the general producer, Fengshang Culture undertakes the production of the Welcome to Beijing Segment in the closing ceremony for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The performance combines the future, technology and modernity, not only using transparent LED screens and projection on the ground, AI and other technologies, but also for the first time adopting 24 robots. The performance perfectly interprets the spirit of the "Humanistic Olympics" and "High-tech Olympics" of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
There are 24 performers - 22 skaters and 2 panda players - on the stage. In addition, there are 24 large screens completely controlled by intelligent robots. The screens display advanced Chinese technologies and Chinese cultural symbols, such as high-speed rail, Tianyan (the five-hundred-meter aperture spherical telescope), the Great Wall, the National Stadium, the National Centre for the Performing Arts. The entire performance therefore presents a "picture in picture".
With the cooperation of the skaters and robots, beautiful line patterns are slowly shown on the stage. The woven Chinese knot symbolizes the joy and harmony of the Chinese New Year and expresses China's best wishes to the world.
At the end of the performance, the skaters mark out the words “2022” and the words "Meet in Beijing" written in various languages on the stage, sending out an invitation to all countries in the world to meet in Beijing in 2022.
During eight minutes, the Chinese spirit, the Internet and AI technology are all shown to the audience, as well as Chinese extensive and profound culture.
